PLANO (WBAP/KLIF) – Plano’s mayor is thinking back to when he was pulled over by police growing up a black teen in Harlem.
Mayor Harry LaRosiliere says he knows what it’s like to be “Driving While Black.”
The mayor speaking out after police killings of black men and the killings of police in Dallas and Baton rouge.
For LaRosiliere, he says you have to prove them wrong.
“By not having drugs, by not having a gun, not having an illegal substance, not being under the influence and having a valid license,” said LaRosiliere.
His message following violence across the country: Acknowledge racism exists and have the difficult conversation. Then, build a trust to have a higher level of relationships between white and black as well as police and neighborhoods.
