Fort Worth (WBAP/KLIF) – If all goes as planned there may soon be a new state park west of DFW. The preliminary designs of the new Palo Pinto Mountains State Park were unveiled Wednesday in Fort Worth. It will be created on 4,000 acres of former ranch land that Texas Parks and Wildlife bought in 2011, specifically to give the residents of DFW some relief from the concrete jungle. It’s to be developed along I-20, about halfway between Fort Worth and Abilene.

The park is still very much in the planning stages, and the Texas Legislature is only now beginning its work on providing the money, so the best guess is opening day is three years away or more.
