DALLAS COUNTY (WBAP/KLIF News) Some inmates in the Dallas County jail will get to work with dogs while learning a new skill. Dallas County Commissioners approved the program called “Home for Hounds.” The facility will be the first county jail in the state to start a dog-training program, according to the Dallas Morning News. The Grand Prairie shelter will work with the jail using dogs pulled from the euthanization line. The program aims to teach inmates empathy while getting dogs ready for adoptive families. Only inmates with no history of violence will be eligible. An El Centro instructor will teach the inmates how to train and they will each get a certificate at the end of the 5-week course. The program will start in October.
