DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) Several homeless in Dallas did some community service to wipe tickets off of their records. The Stewpot shelter downtown hosted a community court event that allowed several dozen people to clear out any citations they have with DART. Many homeless get tickets for evading the fare or jaywalking and are unable to pay any fines. The program is a win-win because it allows the city to save time on processing and paperwork and helps homeless people overcome one of the biggest obstacles to escaping poverty: getting an I.D. Texans with unpaid tickets are legally blocked from getting an I.D, according to the Dallas Morning News. With 2 hours of community service per citation, most homeless residents were able to clean their records by the end of the day.
