(WBAP/KLIF) – Senator John Cornyn says he cannot yet support a compromise gun control bill from republican Susan Collins of Maine.
That does not mean Senator Cornyn and other republicans might change their minds. He says there is an open dialogue between republican leaders and Senator Collins.
“We’re working closely with Senator Collins and and my colleagues in the Senate to see if there is a path forward,” said Senator Cornyn. “I’m, frankly, pretty optimistic.”
Cornyn offered legislation earlier this week banning those on a terror watch list from obtaining weapons after a hearing could be scheduled within 72 hours.
Collins’ bill bans people on the no-fly list from buying guns but allows them to appeal.
