Ft. Worth (WBAP/KLIF News) – Chef Jon Bonnell plans to move his seafood restaurant from Fort Worth’s West 7th development to Sundance Square downtown.
Waters opened at West 7th three years ago but will be the sixth restaurant to close or relocate along Crockett Street in the past year. Bonnell says the location at Sundance Square offers the foot traffic of downtown.
“There is nothing in Fort Worth like Sundance Square,” Bonnell says. “The second they start calling and saying, ‘Hey, we’re interested in one of your restaurants,’ I got so excited, I couldn’t believe it. It’s the opportunity of a lifetime.”
Bonnell will close Waters at the end of this month when his lease at West 7th runs out. He hopes to open the new location by the first of the year.
“It’s going to be difficult, but I’m looking forward to the challenge. Man, I am so excited, I can’t believe it,” he says. “Sundance Square has been an iconic spot for so many years.”
Waters will replace Mercury Chop House at 2nd and Main. Mercury Chop House plans to reopen at a different location but has not said where.
The location offers 5,000 square feet. Bonnell says the patio outside the restaurant is lined with trees. He plans a climate controlled outdoor bar.
“This is a wonderful time to create a new space with a well-known chef and successful concept that the community has embraced,” Sundance Square CEO Johnny Campbell writes in a statement.
