DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – The leader of Next Generation Action Network, a civil rights group, is accusing Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings and Police Chief David Brown of having something to do with his probation being revoked.
Dominique Alexander, 27, pleaded guilty in 2009 to charges related to shaking his girlfriend’s baby, but he continues to deny any wrongdoing. “I ain’t [sic] violently shook [sic] a child. All I said was that I picked the child up to see if he was alert,” Alexander told WFAA-TV. Alexander’s criminal history also includes forging a check, leading police on a high-speed chase and stealing a car.
A judge revoked his probation after he took two trips out of state to protest police shootings. “The timing is suspicious,” Alexander told the television station. “They do not want to sit down with nobody that they disagree with. That’s why I’m in [jail].”
A judge ordered Alexander to two years in prison for the probation violations. Alexander said he expects to finish his sentence by the end of the year.
Alexander organized the protest march in downtown Dallas on July 7. As it was wrapping up, a lone gunman ambushed and killed five police officers.
Earlier this month, Alexander was escorted out of City Hall after he interrupted a council meeting. He was arrested on nearly a dozen warrants, a majority of them were for traffic violations.
