DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Candidates to be the next chair of the Dallas County Republican Party are wasting no time after the sudden resignation of the former chairman.
Mark Montgomery planned to step down at the next executive meeting August 18th but he has changed his mind and says in a statement Wednesday he plans to resign effective immediately.
One candidate running to replace Montgomery is Phillip Huffines who is reportedly the brother of State Senator Don Huffines.
In an e-mail, Huffines says 2016 is going to be a challenging election cycle and he will commit 100 percent of the time, effort and resources necessary.
Former Dallas County Republican party Vice Chairwoman and Plano lawyer Elizabeth Bingham is reportedly also in the running.
The Dallas Morning News reports Bingham said Montgomery did not understand what he was running for.
